Other equipment purchases include a clothes dryer for the Shaowu orphanage and an incubator for the Zhangzhou orphanage. The incubator saves babies' lives by stabilizing the babies' body temperature when they're first brought to the orphanage after being outside. |

The northeastern part of Fujian Province is a very poor area. Orphaned children there often live with impoverished relatives or village elders and are too poor to receive an education. This month, FujianKids began a program with the Jinzhuotou village school to sponsor education for these orphaned children who otherwise would not be able to attend school (see details). |

In February, FujianKids sponsored training in physical therapy for staff from the Nanping and Fuzhou orphanages. Quite a few orphanage children have cerebral palsy, and physical therapy is crucial to helping these children's bones and muscles develop properly. In the near future we plan on equipping a physical therapy room at the Nanping orphanage and expanding the physical therapy facility at Fuzhou. Also in February, phase I of the Baby Care Unit at the Zhenghe orphanage was completed. You can see a photo at http://fujiankids.org/swis/zhenghe/zhenghef.shtml |

This month, FujianKids completed a playroom for the children at the Fuzhou orphanage. Children now have access to art materials, dress up clothes, construction toys, musical instruments, action figures, and even a small bicycle and some skateboards for riding down the long hallways. Previously, the kids' main activity was watching television. They're enjoying the wide range of activities now available to them, and developing motor, spatial, and cognitive skills at the same time. |

| November 2005 |

In November, FujianKids purchased hearing aids for two hearing impaired children--one at the Nanping orphanage and another at Shaowu. At the Zhenghe orphanage, we began installation of our first baby care unit. The baby room there will now be heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer, and newly installed equipment will help with hygiene and provide labor efficiencies so that caregivers can spend more time holding babies instead of washing diapers. Babies will also be fed infant formula now instead of powdered milk in their baby bottles. |

At the Shaowu orphanage, a FujianKids donor is sponsoring vision therapy for a girl with congenital amblyopia and other vision problems. |
