In the past, the Nanping Social Welfare Institute has housed both children and elderly people in the same building. This summer, the administrative offices of the institute and most of the elderly people will be moved to new buildings nearby, while the children will remain in the existing building. These changes open up space that will allow the orphanage staff and FujianKids to provide more services to the children. Most importantly, we will be establishing a rehabilitation center at this orphanage.

Currently, about 50 children live in this orphanage. Most of them are disabled, and a rehabilitation center will greatly improve their quality of life. Particularly for the children with cerebral palsy, access to physical therapy can greatly improve their abilities and prevent them from developing skeletal deformities as they grow.

Nanping staff members recently completed an introductory training course in physical and occupational therapy designed for orphanage medical personnel, and we will be providing additional training in the near future.

The Nanping Rehabilitation Center will have two major units: a Therapy Unit and a Special Education Unit. The Special Education Unit is a suite of rooms that includes a classroom, art area, music room, and teacher's office; it has been completed.

The Therapy Unit has been partially completed, but we still need about $1,000 in funding to purchase the rest of the needed equipment and pay for additional training expenses. You can donate by making a check payable to Altrusa International Foundation and mailing it to
