Jinzhuotou Village School

There are a number of school age children in this area who have been orphaned and are living with impoverished relatives or village elders. The villages are too small to have their own schools, so the only chance local children have for education is to attend a residential school in Jinzhuotou, a somewhat larger village. Unfortunately, the local governments have no money to pay for the orphaned children's school fees. The principal and staff have reached out to these children and are struggling to provide them an education, but without adequate funding they have had to turn children away.

FujianKids is supporting orphaned village children so they can attend this school and get an education. Either one or both of the parents of these children has died, is disabled, or has deserted the family, and the children are living in extremely impoverished circumstances.

The cost to sponsor an orphaned child's education is $340 a year, or $28 a month. A sponsorship covers the cost of the child's education and living expenses (food, dorm fees, medical expenses, etc.). The children live at the school during the school week because their villages are too far away for them to walk to school. Some children go home for the weekends, but others stay at the school all semester, either because their homes are so distant, because their home situation is so impoverished, or because their sole surviving parent is too ill to care for them. Nearly all children return home for the lunar new year and summer holidays. Without an education, these children are destined for a life of relentless poverty.

General donations will be used to sponsor children in emergency cases on a short-term basis until sponsors can be found, to provide additional support for especially needy children during vacation periods, or to enhance nutrition at the school by providing more sources of protein for the children.
