Most orphanages of any size have one or more hearing impaired children. Unfortunately, very few orphanages have the resources to provide hearing aids for them. As a result, children who otherwise could lead a normal life never have the opportunity to hear, to learn to speak, or to receive an education. There are no jobs for them when they grow up, and their future is indeed bleak. Because there are no government subsidies to assist disabled adults in China, in many cities the deaf population have formed bands that survive only by petty theft and picking pockets. Sadly, this is the future that awaits some of the deaf orphanage children.

These children desperately need your help. A hearing aid typically costs between $400 and $650. The children below are waiting to receive hearing aids. Please consider helping these children by contributing to our hearing aid program. Even small donations will help us reach our goal of providing these children with the opportunity to lead a normal life. You may contribute to this program by check or by making an online donation. Or you may contact us by email.

Ning Qing. This 9-year-old girl has a very severe hearing impairment and is mute. To be able to hear, she will need advanced and powerful hearing aids that cost $740 each.

After she receives her hearing aids, FujianKids will enroll her in a school for the deaf where she will learn to hear and possibly learn to speak.

If you are interested in contributing toward the purchase of hearing aids for Ning Qing, please let us know. Even a small amount will help.

Xin Nan. This boy's hearing deficit does not allow him to hear speech. He needs two hearing aids, each costing $622. Xin Nan is living with a foster family, and although the family has learned some sign language, communication is difficult. This 11-year-old boy is talented, bright, and a bit stubborn. Hearing aids will allow him to achieve his full potential and enable him to better express himself in his foster family. Funds to purchase even just one hearing aid would make a big difference for this boy.

Education

With hearing aids, some hearing-paired children can attend a public school, especially if they are diagnosed and receive hearing aids at a young enough age. For other hearing-impaired children, however, special education is required. FujianKids sponsors a classroom for hearing-impaired students at the Fuzhou orphanage. It is taught by an experienced teacher of the deaf. We need donors to cover classroom expenses and the teacher's stipend of $123 per month. Please contact us if you wish to help support this classroom, or send a contribution. Any amount will help.

The photo below shows some of the students in the classroom with their teacher.

FujianKids also provides speech therapy and other programs for hearing-impaired children. Contributions to support these programs are also needed.
